What is it?
First and foremost, this IS a permanent makeup procedure. Lip contour (or lip blushing) is a type of cosmetic tattoo that semi-permanently enhances lip color and shape by depositing colored ink into the lips with a mechanical needle.
Who can get it?
Really anyone.. So long as they are over the age of 18! Whether you reshape the lines of your lips or just want to improve the definition, lip contour is the way to go. What’s the process like?
A full consultation is always carried out before we start the actual tattoo. A consultation is essential to help you figure out what you want and to help us get you there. During that consultation we will discuss exactly what you want to achieve including shape and color, taking into account your natural coloring. We’ll do our best to provide expert advice regarding what suits you best. After, we will pre-draw the agreed upon look and make sure the you like what you see! We don’t begin the tattooing until you are totally happy with the pre-drawing.
So the procedure itself takes about an hour and a half, but what happens after? Lot of wiping. Yes we’re serious. On Day 1, you’re going to wipe your lips every 30 min for about 4 hours. On Day 2, you give the wiping a rest and the lips just dry. Day 3 and on they’re going to start peeling and they will look lighter, but don’t panic! Liberally apply Vaseline as needed and in 6-10 days, the color will start to come back. The end result will be a shade or two lighter than the day you got the procedure done. In most cases, a touch-up is needed about 6-8 weeks later.
Ultimately, this procedure will last anywhere from 2-5 years! After that, it’ll fade naturally. We highly recommend a color boost if you want it to last longer.
Does it hurt?
Of course there’s some discomfort to be expected, but it does not hurt as much as you would think. We apply a numbing solution so you’ll feel the movement (like scratches), but not the painful part. Stay calm and relaxed, as best you can, and the procedure will be over before you know it!
